SPORTS OFFERED AT ST HILDA’S

AEROBICS:

School teams compete in South Island Secondary School Competitions (if enough interest).

ATHLETICS:

Terms 1 and 4. St Hilda’s has a school wide Athletic Sports day and from this athletes are selected to attend Otago, Otago/Southland, South Island, and New Zealand Secondary School Athletic Championships.

BADMINTON:

8 teams compete in the weekly competition held on Tuesday afternoons during Terms 2 and 3. Training is on Thursday lunch times. A team also competes in the Winter Quad Tournament and Waitaki Girls' High School Interchange. Year 7/8 Competition during Term 3 also.

Cost : $40.00

BASKETBALL:

Terms 2 and 3. St Hilda’s has 13 Basketball teams this year playing on Friday nights. The A teams attend Otago Tournaments.

Cost: $40.00

BOWLS :

During Term 1 and 4 we have girls that compete in a pairs competition at local greens.

Cost - $15.00

CANOE POLO:

A team competes on Sunday night at Moana Pool.

CLIMBING:

Takes place on Tuesday and Friday lunchtimes in the St Hilda’s School Gymnasium. A St Hilda’s team competes in the Waitaki Girls' High School Interchange.

Cost - Nil

CRICKET:

Terms 1 and 4 on Wednesday afternoons. Two teams represent St Hilda’s in the Interschool competition.

Cost : Transport and Equipment costs: $30.00

CROSS COUNTRY:

During Terms 2 and 3. A Harriers group runs during 2 lunchtimes each week. St Hilda’s holds a compulsory School Cross Country in Term 2. From this individuals and teams go on to compete in a variety of events including the Kings and Milton relays, as well as the National Cross Country Champs.

Cost: Weekly events $2.00 plus transport costs

CYCLING:

Girls interested in Cycling meet on Sunday morning and go for team rides.

EQUESTRIAN:

A St Hilda’s team attends two interschool events, competing in Dressage and Showjumping.

Cost - $20.00 per event

FOOTBALL:

Terms 2 and 3. St Hilda’s currently has three football teams who compete on Thursday afternoon or Sunday mornings. The A team competes in the National Premier Tournament and the 2nd X1 often compete in a satellite tournament in tournament week.

Cost: $40.00

FUTSAL:

Terms 1 and 4. St Hilda’s team's attend the Otago Tournament.

Cost : $40.00

GOLF:

We offer lessons to students and have a team competing in the Interschool tournament in Term 1.

HOCKEY:

1 Year 7/8 team and 4 teams for Years 9 - 13 (competitive or social) compete on either Monday or Friday (7 & 8) during Terms 2 and 3. Our Senior A team competes in the Women’s Premier Reserve competition, as well as attending Winter Quad, Federation and Jenny McDonald Tournaments. Cost: Vary from $120.00 Year 7/8 to $320.00 for the 1st X1

ICE HOCKEY:

During Terms 2 and 3 in the local competition on Wednesday evenings. Due to lack of numbers St Hilda’s girls have combined with Queens High School in 2012.

Cost -$130.00

MINIBALL:

Played on Monday afternoons during Terms 2 and 3 by Year 7 and 8 students. In 2012 we have a Year 7 and a Year 8 Team.

Cost - $40.00 includes entry to Edgar Sports Centre.

MINIVOLLEY:

During Terms 1 and 4 we have 2 Year 7 and 8 teams playing in the Intermediate competition on Monday nights.

Cost - $8.00 & Edgar Sports Centre entry cost

MULTISPORT:

Individuals and teams compete in Cromwell Triathlon and Otago Duathlon, and are encouraged to attend NZ events.

NETBALL:

During Terms 2 and 3. Currently we have 23 teams from Year 7 – Year 13. Yr 7 & 8 teams play on Thursday afternoons, with Year 9 – 13 competing on Saturdays. Jnr A and Int A teams participate in the Jnr SISS Tournament. The Snr A team plays in the Women’s Premier C section, and also competes in Winter Quad and the Senior SISS tournament.

Cost : Fees vary between $30 (Year 7/8) through to $100 (Senior A)

ROWING:

Terms 1 and 4. Regattas are held at weekends during this time. Training occurs early in the mornings, with off-season training also available. A St Hilda’s team attends the Maadi Cup.

RUGBY:

Term 2 on Wednesday afternoons. The team often attends the Festival of Rugby Tournament each year in Oamaru. A Year 9/10 competition is held in 3rd term.

Cost $40.00 which includes transport and uniform hire

SKIING:

A St Hilda’s team competes in the Otago Secondary School competition during the winter term.

Cost : $283.00

SQUASH:

A St Hilda’s team competes in the local competition and also attends the Waitaki Interchange.

SWIMMING:

School wide swimming sports. A team competes at Summer Quad as well as Otago and South Island Champs.

TENNIS:

Many teams compete in Terms 1 and 4 in the Thursday afternoon Secondary School competition. A St Hilda’s Premier team competes in Summer Quad, the SISS Tournament, and in 2011 qualified for the New Zealand Secondary Schools Finals Tournament.

Cost: $40.00 per term

TOUCH:

8 Touch teams compete in the local competition in Terms 1 and 4 on Tuesday afternoons. A team also attends the Summer Quad Tournament, competes in the Otago Champs and placed 2nd at South Island Tournament. Team attending NZ SS Touch Nationals in 2012. Cost : $15.00

VOLLEYBALL:

During Terms 1 and 4 eight St Hilda’s teams compete in the local competition. A team competes at Summer Quad and the South Island Secondary Schools Tournament.

Cost $35.00

WATER POLO:

Takes place in Terms 1 and 4 with 5 teams competing in local competitions. Competitions are held on Thursdays for Yr 7 & 8, and on Fridays for the Secondary School teams. Teams attend SISS tournaments.

Cost $90.00 includes entry for pool trainings

WATER SKIING:

A team competes at the Otago / Southland Water Ski Champs.
